Watch all three advent videos in one place below. Merry Christmas everyone! See you for our first gathering of 2025 on Sunday 5th January 2025.
As we begin to think about the themes of Advent the following spoken word tells the story of Jesus' humble birth in a borrowed stable. Contrasting the divine nature of the event with it's simple setting, it invites you to find peace knowing God's presence is with you. Emphasising the themes of incarnation and God's closeness to humanity through the person of Jesus it invites you deeper into the narrative and calls you think again about who Jesus really is.

The Great Divine Reset
Have you heard the story, told long ago?
Of a young couple returning home
Finding shelter in a stable - no place for a king
A story of shepherds gathered on a hill
Of wise men travelling from far off lands
Ox and ass they gathered too
Witnessing something long foretold
Arriving like a whisper in a forgotten land
In a forgettable town, hardly the centre of things.
This is where you chose for your arrival,
A humble stable but a heavenly mission
An audacious plan to upset the order of things
The great divine reset!
Centuries of silence proceeded your arrival
Then glory in the highest, a glorious light
Heavenly heralds, writing a new story in the pages of history
Peace on earth they did declare,
Peace the thing we each one crave
Come away to the crib side
Away from the bustle and rushing
Find rest for your souls
A break from all striving
See the grace in His eyes
The one who holds the stars
Nestles in His mothers arms
Holy but not separate
God with us, He does declare!

The Great Divine Whisper
Greater than the prophets heralded
The glory of the old house restored
A new wine skin not forged on tablets of stone
But written in flesh and blood, present.
Not just with us, dwelling in us
Right here amidst the mess
Jobs longings answered
Abraham's journey finished
Jacob's great hope
The answer to Gideon's cry
Samson's true might
David's one King
Isaiah's promise fulfilled
We look at our stories
Of struggle and strife
Does this hope
Answer our questions?
Do you know this heavenly peace?
Will this Christmas time be more?
More than the sum of it's parts
More than the gifts under a tree
More than the turkey, the mistletoe & mince pies
All these traditions speak
Of something greater
Something more mysterious
Wilder than our wildest dreams
A gift that lasts
A love that's stronger
A meal more fulfilling
A hope beyond the grave
Can you hear the divine whisper?
Welcoming you home?
The challenge in a babies face,
"Will you find rest in me?"
Rising to a crescendo asking
Will you come and follow me?
Lay down your sackcloth
Shake off the dust
Rejoice in the joy bringer
Hark they say, listen, can you hear it?
A story from of old
Capturing hearts and captivating minds
A story weaving through the passage of time
Now we see in part, then we will see in full
So come all you hurting
Come all you happy
Come all you grieving
Come all you who have questions
Come find your healer
Come find your joy
Come find your counsellor
Come and find the answer!

As we continue thinking about the themes of Advent the following spoken word explores the themes of hope and peace that are so evident in Carols and ponders how we can know these truths even today.
The Great Divine Adventure
Peace and good will, these carols sweetly sing,
Yet to the shadows of doubt my spirit clings.
"Where is this peace, this hope?" my soul cries out,
Fear gnaws within, with darkness all about.
A dead Messiah, worse, a twisted soul,
These thoughts invade, as carols start to toll.
Conflicts rage, and hatred seems to spread,
As hope fades, and joy has fled.
Yet these songs, a different tune may play,
A call to jaded hearts, lost in dismay.
"Come, all you weary, burdened, and forlorn,
Draw near the manger, where hope is born."
Like Mary and Joseph, with loves pure light,
Or wise men seeking, on a starry night,
Or humble shepherds, with simple, glad hearts,
We're called to journey, where joy imparts.
Come, to the cribside, where history's reborn,
A chance to leave behind the world's harsh scorn.
A journey of birth, and life anew,
A Saviour's love, steadfast strong and true.
Come, to the King, who will forever reign,
A ruler engaged, not distant or full of disdain,
He knows our pain, our sorrows, and our strife,
A sovereign who understands, and offers life.
He welcomes all, the great and lowly, too,
Despised, rejected, just like me and you.
This child born in a lowly place, this refugee,
A beacon of hope, of grace and humility.
So come, and join the throng, gathered near,
The Saviour's love, dispelling doubt and fear.
All are welcome here, none are turned away,
Find rest and peace, a brighter day.
Marvel at this story, so old, yet always new,
A mother's love, a father faithful and true.
The pivot point of history, hope divine,
Another chance to start afresh, a chance to shine.
Life's a journey, an adventure to be explored,
These carols call us, to seek the Lord.
They beckon us to the heart of it all,
To this baby saviour surrender all.
