An Advent Journey

It's so easy to assume you arrived in silence,
Because there was no royal fanfare, no nation held their breath for news
And yet the stars celebrated your arrival, and heralded to us the good news.

In quiet anticipation, a weary world awaited hopes arrival,
In the depths of deepest silence, when the prophets had no words to speak
Suddenly a bright shining star appears, a beacon from afar
Guiding tired travellers to a tiny town, a small backwater,

The darkness begins to surrender as hope dawns on the horizon
A new day is coming, illuminating hearts, eradicating fear.
We think of it as a silent night, yet throngs of angels gathered
Announcing the birth of a strange new king

The prophets spoke of a saviour, whose birth would change the world forever
In a simple stable, with oxen all around, a miracle unfolds
In a manger lies, the saviour of the world
Not in the way we'd have imagined
But very much what we needed

Many made journeys in those days, the parents of this little child,
Shepherds with their flocks at night, Kings with their treasures too.
And a nation returned to their own homes
Yet our saviour came to take us all home

Let us also take a journey, home to where our hearts belong
To the crib-side if you like, to the very place where He dwells with us
Immanuel is His name, God with us, it does proclaim

So in this advent season, where many are looking for a reason
A chance for hope, a chance for peace, a chance for love and grace
Remember why this season so important, draws us to His face
Draws us in, beckons us deeper into His embrace

Come let's go on a journey, a journey to the saviour
A journey to find life's hope, a journey to discover His peace
This Christ child, so 'meek' and 'mild' became for us a King
A suffering servant, a saviour holy, dwelling with us, God of Glory

Matthew 11 says this:
Are you tired? Are you worn out? Burned out by religion? Come to me, come away with me and recover your life. I'll show you rest, true rest. I'll lift your burdens. Walk with me, watch how I do it, learn the unforced rhythm of grace. I don't give heavy burdens, my plan for you is perfect. I want to dwell with you and transform your life.
