Advent Passages 2023

Each day during December in the run up to Christmas, we will be posting passages of scripture on social media which speak about Jesus' birth and the circumstances surrounding it. You can read the passages below and there are links to the full version as well. We hope that in someway this helps you prepare for Christmas this year.

The herald of good news announces “Here is your God!”. The Lord God comes with strength and His power establishes His rule. He protects His flock like a shepherd; he gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them.”

The true light that gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

“Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make straight the highway for our God. The glory of the Lord will appear and all will see it.”

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord – and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel - “God with us”.

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
