Physical Wellbeing

Adam continues our series on Wellbeing by discussing Physical Wellbeing. At the end of his talk there are some prophetic words and we close with a time of ministry and the band lead us in a song of response. We have included these in the video as we felt they were an important part of the session.

Adam reminded us that there is generally broad agreement that our first and most basic needs are physiological in nature. Many people have undertaken research to work out what impact our physical wellbeing has on our lives in general. Many agree that there is a huge interrelatedness between how we perform on many different levels and our level of physical wellbeing.

Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz write in their book on the subject:

“The importance of physical energy seems obvious for athletes, construction workers, and farmers… In reality physical energy is the fundamental source of fuel, even if our work is almost completely sedentary. It not only lies at the heart of alertness and vitality but also affects our ability to manage our emotions, sustain our concentration, think creatively, and even maintain our commitment to whatever mission we are on.” *

Biblical worldview coincides with this emphasis on the importance of our physical bodies. God is spirit but he created a physical universe and populated earth with physical beings both human and animal. If that wasn’t enough Jesus, the Son of God, became a physical human being, was crucified and resurrected. Not only that he now stands at the right hand of the Father in that resurrected physical body. Taking this emphasis further the Bible reveals that when Christ returns it will usher in a new age and a new heaven and new earth will be established where we will dwell with Him in resurrected bodies forever!

To be abundantly clear - your physical body is important to God and is also important to you. When we renew our physical energy it impacts every part of our lives. It’s telling that many counsellors will begin by placing focus on physical aspects of a persons life before they move onto other areas. Often when we feel emotionally worn out, it is because we are also physically drained and need to take time to focus on our physical wellbeing.

Adam continued and finished by praying for those who want to improve their physical wellbeing, for those who feel out of control in this area, for those who have specific ailments or ongoing health problems which are as yet undiagnosed.
