Meet up with friends, grab a bargain or just relax over a cup of tea - you'll always be welcome.
There's nothing like an Army cup of tea...
You will find cafes located in many of their churches and centres, where Salvation Army staff and volunteers are happy to provide a listening ear, along with affordable food and drink.
Every cafe is unique. Some form part of the Salvation Army's emergency community relief work giving out free hot food to vulnerable members of our society, while others are more relaxed versions of the church experience. You can also find The Salvation Army at work in Costa Coffee outlets dotted around the UK, where we host a range of outreach events with live music and speakers.
In line with their ethos, some of the cafes give experience to service users so they can interact with members of the church to gain confidence and employment experience on their journey to a better life. Their charity shops have bargains in store for everyone, as well as the opportunity to save some money and support those in need. Did you know The Salvation Army was a pioneer in charity shops? In the 19th century The Salvation Army was one of the first ever charities to run a second-hand clothing shop to provide affordable clothes.
150 years later and nothing has changed. As all those years ago, they make sure that everything sold is good quality and affordable. They sell mainly second-hand goods donated by the public. When visiting our shops you will find bargains and collectables plus an eclectic mix of fashion, bric-a-brac and other household items. From retro fashion to CDs and DVDs, bestselling books to computer games.
The new Cafe will be right next door to the Salvation Army Derby Headquarters near The Spot in Derby City Centre.
They are looking for volunteers to join them. If you would like to volunteer contact: derbycentralapplications@gmail.com or call 07815 748265
