7:14 Prayer

'7:14' is a pop-up prayer initiative based on 2 Chronicles 7:14 ('If my people'...) that was started in London a number of years ago. 7:14 prayer events have taken place all over the world. The idea is to gather to pray for one hour (7:14pm-8:14pm) in an outdoor location for the City, the Nation and the Nations.

Derby's first involvement was on 1 Dec 2011 (beginning of Advent) when about 50 of us from around the City met at the Spot and prayed for the Nation and the Church, synchronising with identical prayer events around the England and other nations across the world.

Since then, there have been a number of further 7:14 events here in Derby: one for Syria, one the evening before the Olympic flame was to pass through the City (2012) and most recently, the night before the 2015 General Election. These were national events, with each gathering place going through the same programme at the same time. For the General Election one, a dozen of us met in the pouring rain at the waterfall, and when we were finished, we were treated to a most glorious double rainbow. And the election result took everyone by surprise.

Since then, there hasn't been a 7:14 event here in Derby, but the current challenge in the city centre connected with Mamba and other addictions has prompted the City Vision leaders to feel that it is time to come together as the Lord's people across the city. We know that it is the Lord's heart to set captives free.

The format is very simple, the concept is Biblical. The desire is to see God's Kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven.
But first, we as His people are called to humble ourselves and pray...
