Street Pastors have now been operating in Derby for 7 years and during that time have helped make a significant difference to the levels of violent crime, injury and drunkenness in the city centre, especially on Friday & Saturday nights. This project is run in conjunction with the Ascension Trust where ordinary people are doing an extraodrinary thing, and is a demonstration of taking the love of Jesus onto our streets.
Here is an update from Derby City Mission who help to co-ordinate the Street Pastors Project.
What is a Street Pastor?
Street Pastors are trained volunteers from local churches who care about their community. Teams patrol Derby's City Centre between 10pm and 4am on a Friday and Saturday night. They look out for, listen to, talk with and care for people who have set out for a good night out but find themselves in a place of vulnerability.
A Street Pastor is...
* a Christian and member of a local church
* over 18, willing to submit a DBS check and attend the full training programme
* happy to work in a team and in collaboration with other agencies
* able to engage with people, whatever their perspective on life or lifestyle
* concerned for the wellbeing of society and their local community
Street Pastor Recruitment 2017 & Taster Evenings
We are currently recruiting for new Street Pastors, if you would like to find out more about what is involved in becoming a Street Pastor DCM are hosting two taster evenings in February 2017. At these evenings you will be given some short presentations on what it's like to be a Street Pastor, details of the training process that will be provided and the level of personal commitment you can expect. In addition there will be an opportunity to ask questions and talk to current Street Pastors.
The taster evenings will take place at 7.30pm on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st February 2017 at Littleover Methodist Church, Constable Drive, Littleover.
Those people who express an interest will be encouraged to come along and join one of the Street Pastor shifts in the city centre (as an observer) so that they can experience first-hand what it is like to be a Street Pastor.
