God has promised that HE will build HIS church and the gates of hell will NOT prevail.
This is a scripture that has been on my mind now for the last couple of weeks. A good friend of mine was talking about their church planting experiences and said that if they had not learnt the lesson that God is in the business of building church and that it is not mans job, then they wouldn't be pastoring a successful church right now!
Tuesday night the church gathered to pray, it was a really encouraging evening, and God spoke some practical things. But that scripture was mentioned again . . . I will build my church. . . So many times we as Christians can get so stuck on doing church, so involved in the routine, that we thing it is our job to build the church. Yes we have a responsibility to show people the love of Jesus, but ultimately the building of the church is down to God!
I don't know about you, but this gives me great relief! The church is going to grow because God has promised He will grow it! I know what some of you might be thinking right now and its a fair thought - if we are not meant to be building the church, then how will we grow?
God has given us all a job to do - each one of us fulfills and integral part in the church family, and we need to be completely open to all that God has for us and all that He wants us to do. Some of the challenges from the prayer meeting were about asking ourselves - Am I ready to be used by God? Am I willing to be in tune with the Holy Spirit? Am I willing to step out of my comfort box on a Sunday morning and talk to visitors? And not only talk to them, but ask God for a word of knowledge for them? Pray for them?
If we are faithful in the small things - God will entrust to us much!As we look after those people who God has given us with excellence and with love, God will add to us and He WILL build His church here in Derby!
God has got some amazing adventures for us here at Jubilee, so be excited and be willing to embrace all God has for you!
Would you like a greater understanding of the Bible? Would you like to join a study group with other enthusiastic participants? If so, then I would wholeheartedly recommend the WORDplus course which is being run by Kings Church Leicester. The second half of the current programme will focus on Old Testament studies on the following five dates:
The days will run from 9.15am – 4pm and be held at Hazel Street School, Sawday Street in Leicester. Each subject has (voluntary) choices of assignments to be completed and submitted between sessions. The cost for the course is £35 for the workbook plus £8 per session. (It is not essential to have the workbook, but is recommended.)
If you would like to book onto this course please email Nigel Rostock and the WORDplus team at Nigelrostock@sky.com
Many of you will remember the offering we had before Christmas towards the Christmas Connection project run by Derby City Mission.... I found out tonight that they were able to give presents to 809 children, which was fantastic! Thank you for giving, and well done to the team at DCM for making this work.
Right from the outset, Jubilee Church started with a vision to make an impact in the City of Derby – to see lives changed, communities impacted and the Kingdom of God extended, in Derby and beyond. Jubilee Church is a family on a mission together. We're family, but we're also going somewhere!
Becoming a member of Jubilee is about becoming part of a vibrant community, and committing yourself to playing your unique part in this vision. We can do so much more together than we can apart, so why not consider joining?
We have a short membership course that goes through our beliefs and vision & values. We ask everyone who is considering membership to complete this. At the end of the course, you can decide whether Jubilee is really for you.
When you become a Christian, you become part of the worldwide Church. However, the Bible also encourages Christians to become participating members of a specific local community. In the New Testament, new believers were always saved and added to a local church – there was no sense of any Christian just "going it alone".
So don't miss out – commit to becoming a member of Jubilee Church and press in to all God has in store for you. See the events page for details of the next membership evenings.
Edward Buria, who leads the Newfrontiers churches in Kenya was in touch with the UK yesterday asking for prayer regarding a recent severe drought. His message was as follows:
Hope you all have started 2011 well. Our prayers and faith will be with you as we look forward in serving God and His people in this year. Our year has started on a rather challenging note as we find ourselves battling a severe draught. Our friends in Samburu are badly hit. May we have much prayer from our churches. Thank you and God bless you. Edward.
Let us stand with our friends in Kenya and pray for them at this difficult time.
